Hokey Spokes are transparent "blades" that attach to your bicycle spokes. As these blades spin during riding, a computer inside the blades modulates the 16 internal LED lights so that design images and custom text appear.
The user can decide how many spokes in a variety of colors they want to place on the bicycle wheel. Up to 6 "blades" can be placed on each wheel. The more blades, the more visibility and persistence of vision at lower speeds. The 6 elaborate pre-programmed designs play and switch automatically every 10 seconds, or the customizable text message (up to 16 characters) can be frozen to play consistently all the time. Play mode is selected by using one of the waterproof keys located on the blade. Alternately, blades can be controlled and programmed using a Palm Pilot or compatible device. All Hokey Spokes will communicate with the other Hokey Spokes on your bicycle wheel using wireless infrared technology to display the same design at once!
Hokey Spokes are designed so that they fit virtually any mountain or road bike with a wheel diameter of 24" or greater. Hokey Spokes can be used on front and back wheels at the same time.
Hokey Spokes are available in single colors or a "rainbow" multicolor version. RED and GREEN single color blades are $28.99. WHITE and BLUE single color blades are $38.99 due to the higher cost of producing those color LEDs. The multicolor version costs $31.99. All color combinations of the Hokey Spokes look great, and work seamlessly together. Using 3 separate single colors is a popular option. You can use anywhere from one to 6 blades per wheel. One blade may create an imbalanced wheel at the higher speeds that are required to properly show the image. Two Hokey Spokes mounted opposite (180 degrees) of one another would balance it but you have to go 12 mph to get the full visual effect. Having three different Hokey Spokes on one wheel (spaced at 120 degrees apart) gives the best visual effect at 7 mph. You can load as many as six but you don't seem to have better images, so the manufacturer recommends three on each wheel for maximum effect.
Hokey Spokes are extremely easy to install. You can put them on and take them off in minutes using a Phillips screwdriver. The blades are shock-resistant for excellent over-the-road performance. Hokey Spokes are waterproof and weigh only 6 ounces each including batteries. Each blade uses 3 AA batteries that last up to 48 hours continuous usage on a set of batteries.
Please remember that the fewer Hokey Spokes "blades" you use per wheel, the higher a speed is necessary to effectively display the designs. Using 3 blades requires 7 mph, 2 blades requires 12mph, and one blade requires even higher speeds.
